Erik Burgos (American citizen), a licensed attorney and a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Virginia, is RKA’s Chief Accounting Officer and Global Controller. Erik is a tax services and tax controversies expert and resides in Virginia with his family.

With leadership presence and residing in the Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and New York metro areas; Miami; Houston; Austin; Atlanta; Columbus; Tampa; Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Quito, Ecuador; Bogota, Colombia; Mexico City; Brisbane, Australia; and Cologne, Germany, the firm principals are repeatedly sought-after in high stakes forensic, integrity services and special investigation, as well as risk, security/executive protection, litigation support, and compliance advisory services. They have worked for or served the world’s largest, most recognized, and respected companies. Erik has more than fifteen years of experience dealing with complex accounting topics and transaction tax planning, structuring, due diligence, and post-acquisition tax planning to enhance the tax effectiveness of acquired businesses. Most recently Erik served as tax attorney for General Dynamics an aerospace and defense company in Northern Virginia where he was responsible for managing the company-wide global state, local and miscellaneous tax issues; developing and implementing company-wide tax policy; and coordinating tax planning and legal advice regarding state, local and miscellaneous income, and non-income tax matters.  Prior to GD, Erik was a Partner at a regional accounting firm in Virginia and oversaw the multistate tax practice and led the firm’s state income tax service line.  He was also the Mid-Atlantic and southeast state tax mergers & acquisitions practice leader for a Big4 accounting firm and was responsible for overseeing the state and local mergers and acquisition practices in the mid-Atlantic and southeast regions. In this role, Erik focused on the state and local tax aspects of mergers and acquisition deals which included:  transaction tax planning, structuring, due diligence, and post-acquisition state and local tax planning. Erik has worked on more than 850 M&A transactions throughout his career.

He holds a Juris Doctor (Doctor of Law) from Hofstra Law Center and a Master of Tax Law from Georgetown University’s Law Center. He is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia, and is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in New York and Virginia.  Additionally, Erik is a Special Professor of Law at Hofstra Law Center and teaches state and local tax.
